I’ve always loved pine. It’s fast, and fully featured console email client.
Recently I’ve started to use google apps for domains, and I wanted to use pine with gmail.
Here’s short manual how You can do that:
1. Enable IMAP access to your gmail account (You can do that in settings->forwarding pop and imap->enable imap).
2. Run pine (or alpine), go to the main menu (M key), open Setup (S) and Configure (C).
in SMTP-server field enter: smtp.gmail.com/novalidate-cert/submit/user=your@google.account
You can also change almost all interesting pine configuration options here.
3. Exit (With E key) from configuration and confirm the operation (Yes).
4. Now in setup go to collectionList (L), add new folder collection (A).
Nickname is for account name, how it will be displayed in a folder list.
In server type: imap.gmail.com:993/ssl/novalidate-cert/user=your@google.account.
Path and View, you can leave empty. Confirm changes with Ctrl+x (Ctrl+c to cancel), exit setup (E).
Now in folder list you will see your new account, and voila!
